Riesling has the ability to produce wines that run the gamut from bone dry to very sweet but are usually made in dry of semi-dry styles.  It has perfumey aromas with peach and honeysuckle notes and can develop a 'petrol' nose as it ages. Food pairings with Riesling differ depending on its style. Try dry Riesling with a variety of seafoods and soups as well as creamy or fatty cheeses like Brie, Alsatian Munster, or Pont l'Evéque and salty cheeses like Gruyere, Beaufort, or Asiago. Off-dry style Rieslings are always great with spicy food and Asian cuisine, especially Thai. Sweet Rieslings are very good on their own or paired with savory desserts like banana bread pudding.

The Wine Advocate is a bimonthly wine publication featuring the consumer advice of wine critic Robert M. Parker, Jr. Initially titled The Baltimore-Washington Wine Advocate the first issue was published in 1978. I still believe it is the simplest way to rate a wine, with its origins from grade school in the United States. A wine that I rate 90 points or more is outstanding (A), and worth buying. If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy.
